Note: At date of writing (6th October 2025) there is only one known case of this scenario. So it is a very low occurrence situation. Please avoid following the steps in this article unless you have tried the default method multiple times, and best to contact support@timingsolutions.com.au for guidance.
Overview:
- The Timing Solutions wireless system requires a USB Timing Hub to be plugged into the users computer. This USB Timing hub is crucial as it creates the wireless network and also performs important timing processes.
- This USB Timing Hub requires a driver to be installed on your Windows computer. The driver is packaged up with the RaceHQ software and you will be prompted to install it if it's not already installed.
- There appears to be at least one scenario of laptop / processor where this driver will not install effectively. This has to do with the type of processor on the computer (and "ARM" processor)
- The outcome is that your USB Timing Hub will not be recognised by your computer. And you will not have a 'comm port' appear in RaceHQ that is associated with the USB Timing Hub.
To determine if your processor is 'in scope' of this issue
- Click on the Windows icon (bottom left / bottom of your screen).
- Type in "System" and then select "System Information" application in the windows search results
- Various information about your computer will appear. Look for "System Type"
- If your "System Type" says 'ARM64-based PC' then there is a good chance that you will be impacted by this issue.
What to do
- If you believe this scenario is impacting you, you are required to manually install a different driver onto your computer such that USB Timing Hub will be recognised.
- Download this driver package https://ftdichip.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/CDM-v2.12.36.20-for-ARM64-WHQL-Certified.zip
- The package will come compressed as a 'zip' file. Decompress the file by selecting the folder in the download directly and select 'Extract All'. It will extract into a new folder.
- Follow section 3.3 "Manual Installation" of this guide https://ftdichip.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/AN_396_FTDI_Drivers_Installation_Guide_for_Windows_10_11.pdf
- During the steps you will need to navigate to the downloaded and extracted driver package reference in previous step
- Plug in the USB Timing Hub during the process so that you can see where it appears in the 'Device Manager' menu.
- Following this process, the USB Timing Hub should be recognised successfully and you should be able to find the comm port in RaceHQ.
